Made in the Black Country

This blog was developed for Wolverhampton Art Gallery, who wanted to 'celebrate the rich industrial heritage of the Black Country'. For those that don't have the pleasure of living in the West Midlands, the Black Country is the region where much of the industrial revolution kicked off. The origin of the name is subject to debate, as are its boundaries (see the screenshots for the poll!), but the Black Country, wherever it is, attracts visitors to heritage centres, museums and art galleries. The project was part of a social media pilot that drew in feeds from Flickr, Twitter and links with Google Maps.

Being at the Art Gallery gave me the opportunity to get down amongst the objects in the basement, and many of the blog posts were written by me based on stories and objects I discovered, my favourites being the Christmas cards from 1910!
