Super Tux Kart

When you're a web designer, lunch breaks, in short, often aren't lunch breaks. Admin work or last minute touch-ups to a favourite project are often shoulder to shoulder with a quick sandwich. But sometimes there really is nothing that needs to be fiddled with: no urgent emails to be sent or tests to be run. The March weather not providing much in the way of sunshine, we were (and are) indebted to Super Tux Kart - a free, open-source game - for providing a distraction from the noon drizzle. When we saw 'Webmaster needed' on their news page, we felt obliged to lend a hand. The current site was functional, but lacking pizazz, the feeling that this was the website of an incredibly fun game.

There was however, a compromise to be met. The site runs on MediaWiki, (the same software used by Wikipedia) and is, in spirit, a platform for developer discussion and formal articles about the game's development. Thus the layout must be a wide, clean space for article text and pictures while keeping a friendly appearance for visitors. We think the end result is quite pleasing, but, perfectionists that we are, we'll be listening for community feedback and will be on hand to make any tweaks that the users might like to see.

If you're having trouble finding things to do in your lunch break, may I suggest burning rubber round over 20 tracks with the choice of more than 10 different characters? Go check it out!
